Sticker Art by Mrs.
Grossman
March 15, 1997 I was able to attend an advanced sticker art class
given by Mrs. Grossman and some of her talented staff. In this class we were given the
materials to complete s several projects. Mrs. Grossman's simple step-by-step instructions
really made assembling these projects very easy. If you ever have the opportunity to
attend one of her sticker art classes, I highly recommend it. The class was educational,
fun and a GREAT value (cost $10).
I was excited to learn that Mrs. Grossman's recently switched to a
new lab to do their pH testing and found that their entire
line of stickers is pH neutral. (It was previously believed that the
metallic stickers were not acid free.) So spread the good news and go ahead and put those
"Reflections" stickers in your albums- they are beautiful!!!
The class started with Mrs. Grossman explaining what she keeps in
her sticker art box and why. These are the items she recommended:
- Stickers ( Mrs. Grossman's, of course!!!)
- Small, sharp scissors (For cutting stickers and slicing stickers)
Fiskars are my favorite.
- Exacto knife (for cutting stickers and for lifting and placing
stickers)
- Powder (for making stickers UN-sticky)
- Glue stick (for attaching paper or embellishments to cards) I use ZIG
2-Way Glue instead
- White correction pen (for writing and adding effects like snow and
writing on a blackboard) I use a ZIG Opaque Marker instead.
- Silver opaque marker (for writing and adding special effects)
- Gold thread (for balloon strings)
- Tweezers (for sticker placement)
- Mounting tape- the squares of double adhesive with a foam cushion in
the middle (for adding a 3-D effect to your sticker art)
- Nail Polish remover packets (for removing the sticker residue from
your scissors or other tools)
- A box with dividers to sort your stickers or some other method for
sorting stickers so that you can find them. I use a Cropper Hopper Sticker Case.

Basic Notes:
- Always cut stickers while they are still on the liner.
- Use the sticker liner to help you assemble your sticker art project,
then remove the completed project and place on paper.
- If placing a sticker onto a paper before finishing a sticker art
project, resist the impulse to smooth it out and secure it to the page.
- Place stickers behind and in front of the object of primary focus to
give depth to your sticker art.
- Don't be afraid to layer stickers on top of each other.
- Use your scissors to slice a sticker. Slicing can be cutting
between the body and arm of an animal sticker to lengthen the arm and allow the sticker to
better "hold" items.
The items we made in class:
Mrs. Grossman's can be
visited on-line.They have information on all the new products on-line and a sticker art page of their own.
If this article was interesting and you would like to get more info
on sticker art, then buy Mrs. Grossman's new book appropriately titled "Mrs.
Grossman's Sticker Idea Book" for $10-12 at a retailer near you.
